Rebel Satori Authors at New Orleans Poetry Festival

April 16, 2022 - April 24, 2022

New Orleans Poetry Festival returns with live and virtual events.

Get ready for a newly organized and expanded festival. In the course of adapting the fest to our new Covid infested world, we believe we’ve come up with changes in venues and organization that will make it even more inclusive, exciting, informative, and fun. Building on what we learned in the online-only event last year, we will have more remote events this year, but we are also adding back to that mix the community and inspiration of live performance and the Small Press Fair.

The mission of the New Orleans Poetry Festival and Small Press Fair is to create a space for an inclusive and diverse group of writers to collaborate, share and influence each other while also being immersed in the distinct literary culture of New Orleans. As such, our goal every year is to bring in poets and performers from across the globe to share their work and research in topics not only specific to writing but to cultural, political and activist needs relevant to the current climate. We also hope to showcase the best writers that New Orleans has to offer allowing visitors to partake in the writing spirit unique to our city. The Festival is highly participatory with events ranging from workshops where you will be generating writing to open mics where you can share your work to getting out on the dance floor to listen and dance to our poets with bands. We invite the active inspiration of saturation in four days of poetry along with the collaboration of creating a temporary autonomous zone for fostering further explorations and creations that continue beyond the time spent here in New Orleans.

Live events will commence on Thursday April 21 at 7pm with our first live reading, featuring New Orleans poets Karisma Price, Té V. Smith, Henry Goldkamp, & Rebel Satori author Daniel W.K. Lee, presented by The Splice Poetry Series & Tilted House, at the Saturn Bar 3067 St Claude Ave, 70117.

Sunday 4/24 at 2:00 Rebel Satori’s Antonio Addessi and Daniel W.K. Lee among others

A poetry reading that would center around the poetry of location, of place, and how it is transformed, articulated, and experienced as queers, as a theme. Antonio Addessi would introduce the poets and we would be reading 3-4 poems each. All together 4 poets—Antonio, and local New Orleanian poets Daniel W.K. Lee, Z’étoile Imma, and Brad Richard. We then would like to follow the reading with a panel discussion moderated by Antonio discussing with the poets about their experience of being queer and being a part of the New Orleans community. Some of the topics we will explore is inspiration for writing, the writing process and how New Orleans herself has impacted their writing. In essence, we would explore writer Nick Spitzer’s articulation of “creolization,” that is, the conjoining of “multiple sources in new identities and expressions, continuously co-mingling and adapting traditions in ways that link the local, regional, and global.”

No admission fees will be charged.
